Configuration records

The link between delivered equipment and the information used to maintain it.

One reference point

A configuration baseline describes what has been approved and delivered. It helps different disciplines discuss the same system. Without it, even a familiar component name can conceal a different revision or interface.

Changes need context

A replacement or upgrade should be considered in relation to the system it serves. Record the reason for the change and the review supporting it. This preserves the engineering context for the next person working on the equipment.

Make records usable

Organise documents so that equipment identification leads to the relevant information. Clear ownership and revision control matter more than the size of the archive. A record works when people can confidently find the current reference.
