The Type 80 lineage
Understanding the historical names behind a control-system family.
A Houston origin
The public Drilling Controls profile dates its origins to Koomey Inc., founded by Paul C. Koomey in 1979. The Type 80 name is associated with that BOP control-system lineage. Historical names help explain equipment records but do not by themselves establish the current owner or service arrangement.
Read dates carefully
AXON’s 2015 BOP controls brochure lists Drilling Controls Inc. in the 2006–2009 part of its lineage and AXON Pressure Products from 2009. These dates are important when interpreting older descriptions. A historical profile should not be read as a current certification statement.
Use the equipment record
When discussing an installed system, identify the actual equipment and its documentation. The lineage provides context; the approved configuration provides the reference for engineering and service decisions.
