Production handover

A study of the information needed when a production control package changes hands.

Know the audience

Operations, maintenance and engineering need different views of the same equipment. The handover structure begins by identifying those needs and the documents that support them. It avoids assuming that a large document archive is automatically a useful one.

Organise the package

Approved drawings, configuration information and service references are grouped by their purpose. Open questions are kept visible with ownership. The package is reviewed against the delivered equipment rather than an earlier design stage.

Keep it current

A handover is the beginning of the operating record, not its final version. Responsibility for future updates needs to be clear. Changes should preserve the connection between the physical equipment and its approved documentation.
